Thank you for being patient in regards to news about our LAN.
Firstly, we’d like to make it clear that we had to wait for other parties involved in the LAN process to get back to ESHUB before we can announce any details.
Over the last two weeks, we have been waiting for a written contract to come through from the Norbreck Hotel. Up until this point, we had a verbal contract [which is a binding legal contract within English law] that we had booked space within the hotel on the first weekend in August. Unfortunately, the Norbreck Hotel double-booked their space for the weekend of August 3rd – 5th. We then had limited options presented to us: we were offered a smaller hall which lacked many features initially promised; we could change dates of the event; and ultimately, we could seek legal action.
The Esports Hub is purchasing the equipment for the LAN event outright, with the intention of hosting multiple events throughout the year, potentially at the Norbreck. It is not in our interest, or in the venue’s interest, to take legal action – we understand mistakes, double-booking errors do happen.
We also did not want to host our first event in a smaller room. The hotel could not guarantee the power supply to the room would be adequate to host our event.
This leaves us with the last option. We must find a new date for the event. The end of July and August is busy with Call of Duty events. Currently, we have space within the Norbreck booked between Friday 10th and Sunday 12th of August. This means the event is postponed by one week.
The Esports Hub has been operating within the Call of Duty scene since Advanced Warfare. We believe our reputation to be in good standing with the community. Saying this, the LAN event will be taking place. We know that many past-organisers have let the community down and we do not want this date-change to spark any doubt. It was unfortunately just down to a simple human error. The Norbreck staff were apologetic and very helpful in trying to remedy the situation.
We hope this has not caused too many problems.
We’ll be announcing full event information and will start the ticket sale process within the next 7 days.
P.S. To clarify the age, we are currently working to an 18+ age restriction however we've asked Activision if they can clarify if there is any possible way in where we can allow people aged 16+ to play. We'll keep you posted.
